Build Your Capacity -Bishop FEB Idahosa

Proverbs 13:20

He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

It’s important you begin to find people that will add to you, that will improve what you do and what you think. If you walk with the wise, you will become wise. It’s important you start thinking how to become wise and get things that will improve you.

It’s important to know what capacity is. The bible says in Proverbs 1:7, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” It’s important we start thinking about knowledge. Proverbs 18:15, says, "The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge; the ears of the wise seek it out.”

Capacity is very important. How much capacity do you have? You might want to know what capacity is. Capacity is the ability to do something. It’s the ability to carry yourself, learn something and improve yourself. Capacity also talks about how much you can carry, how much you can do and how much power you have.

Most of us our capacity is not quite enough for the next level we want to go. Unless you increase your capacity, it won’t be enough to carry the load of the next level you want to get to. God once told me, “FEB sometimes the hindrance to the answer of your prayers, is the fact that you prayed.” I know this sounds funny, but let me explain: We can spend a lot of hours in prayers for God to give us more load to carry for the next level, but if we don’t have the capacity to carry such load, the prayers will not be answered. Many of us are trying to increase the load in our lives; we want God to bless us, we want God to increase us, but we have not increased our own capacity. We are praying that God should give us a job, but we are still at home doing nothing about it. We are praying for God to do more for us and we are not doing anything.

My point is this, the hindrance to your prayers been answered is the fact that you have already prayed and you assume that God will do everything for you. Because we assume that God will do everything for us we pray, so, the hindrance to that prayer is no longer God, but us, because we have not done the things we need to do to increase our capacity.

The question now is: how can we increase our capacity? You can dress up yourself, you can look good, but if your capacity to carry your next level is not there, that next level when it comes can kill you. Rev Dickson Ogbahon, once said, “If God gives you the big car you have been praying for when you are not ready for it, that big car can kill you,” the fuel of the car alone might be more than your salary.

If your capacity is not enough to carry your next level, it’s going to be a problem for you. So, you need to make sure you increase your capacity. Capacity building is essential for your next level. As you are praying to God to bless you, you also need to do your part by increasing your capacity.

So, how do you increase your capacity? The bible in Proverbs 18:15 says, "The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge; the ears of the wise seek it out.” If you are discerning and you know what you want in life, your heart must pursue knowledge; you must acquire it. The ears of the wise seeks out knowledge. You must begin to pursue the knowledge that will increase you.

There are several ways you can build capacity: You need to learn. Start learning.

(1) The Formal way: Go back to school; if you are a secondary school leaver, go back and get your first degree, if you have a first degree, then go back and get your Masters; this days a Master’s degree is just as common as a first degree. Then go back and get your PHD next. Always be continually learning, improve yourself, if you don’t, the capacity for your next level will not be enough to carry the load: the capacity will be like putting an entire building on a 1.5kva generator, it simply will not carry it. You seek knowledge by going back to school.

(2) The Informal way: If you can’t go to school, then go and look for other ways to learn knowledge. The world today is digital and it’s important you learn some of these things. There are things now called MOOCs (Massive Online Open Courses). A MOOC is simply this: almost all the big Universities in the world (Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Preston, etc.) have all their courses online available free of charge. Just go to these websites and learn whatever course you want to learn free of charge, though you won’t get a degree from these universities, but you will have the knowledge. Examples of MOOC website are: coursera.org, edx.org, udemy.com, khanacademy.org (a collection of different people teaching children how to learn several things).

You must begin to start thinking on how to build your capacity. You must begin to learn in order to build your capacity. Go after knowledge. Seek knowledge and pursue it. You have laptops and smartphones, these can be used to acquire knowledge. Do more with your phones than Whatsapp or Facebook. Use your phones and tablets to learn something. The more you do to learn, the better you will be about your capacity.

(3) Self-directed learning. You must do the informal part and be a self-directed learner. Brian Tracey said, “Do your best, every single day read thirty minutes in your field, what this does for you is that it improves your capacity and in one year, you have the potential to double your income.”

It is important we learn every day, because your capacity is what will help you carry more load. There is a new level God is taking you to. There is a new level God wants to bless you with, but God will not bless you with more, unless you can carry more. God will not bless you with more than you can take. God wants you to improve your capacity. God wants you to learn. The bible is full of scriptures that talks about learning and improving in knowledge. You must improve on what you know. Your capacity is very important. Capacity is the key to building opportunities.

In summary you cannot dress yourself to carry the load for the next level, until you improve your capacity and you improve your capacity by acquiring knowledge, either formally, informally or through self-directed.
